Must read

Cricket Victoria has welcomed this week’s confirmation of a new national women’s T20 competition that will create an exciting lead-up to the WBBL season.

The new competition will feature teams representing WBBL clubs including the Melbourne Stars and Melbourne Renegades and will also increase wages and playing opportunities for domestic players.

The competition will take place before the Weber WBBL|10 season with the teams playing four matches across two cities followed by finals.

Cricket Victoria CEO Nick Cummins said:

“Cricket Victoria welcomes the news this week that the new national women’s T20 competition will involve all eight existing WBBL teams and the ACT.”

“From the outset, Cricket Victoria has been committed to finding a practical solution which delivers more playing opportunities for Victorian female cricketers, consistency in the alignment with high performance programs and allows each club to deliver the best possible preparation ahead of the Weber WBBL season.”

“We thank both Cricket Australia and the Australian Cricketers Association for their efforts in providing a better outcome for Victorian players and clubs, which in turn will ensure the ongoing strength of the Weber WBBL.”

State contracting for female players is now open.
