The John Townsend Golf Classic fundraiser, a four-person Ambrose, is a key part of the 50th birthday celebrations for the not-for-profit 104.1 CHYFM, Coffs Harbour’s youth community radio station.

Representing Bishop Druitt College are Milla Adamson, Arlo Bennett and Ava Lindsay, all of whom have been honing their golfing skills for over three years.

Joining them is the college’s High Performance, Athletic Development and Sports Academy Director Nat Titcume, a three-time Olympic medallist.

“I’ve been at the college for five years and introduced all of our Sports Academy programs, with golf being one of the foundation sports,” said Nat.

“It has grown significantly with the guidance of our Head Golf Coach, Craig Lang.”

Station Manager Angie Vaughan is thrilled with the inclusion of a high school team, seeing it as particularly meaningful for the event which raises funds for the local youth community radio station.

“Bishop Druitt College has been a big supporter of 104.1 CHYFM, with many of their students attending workshops and presenting on-air programs,” she said.

The BDC students boast impressive handicaps, with Arlo playing off 8, Ava off 12, and Milla off 14.

“Notably, Milla has been competing in All Schools open events despite being only in Year 7.”

So, what draws these young talents to golf?

“They love the challenge and the opportunity to spend quality time with their parents and grandparents, who support and encourage them,” explains Nat.

The John Townsend Golf Classic will see participation from teams representing Signarama, Shoreline Freighters, Moore Australia, Complete Pest Control, Galvin Constructions, OOSH Services, Atlua Pty Ltd, Sincock Property Maintenance, and more.

Teams will compete for the prestigious John Townsend Golf Classic trophy, handcrafted by local artist Ian Horncastle from the Woodcraft Gallery in Bellingen.

Additionally, numerous great prizes are up for grabs, and collectables will be auctioned off after the game.

Teams can still register to compete.
