Welcome to another wonderful Wednesday of sports, Pickswise Nation. Firstly congratulations to World Baseball Classic champions Japan, who won an epic game against the United States 3-2 with Shohei Ohtani striking out Mike Trout to close it out. After that drama, we have NBA, NHL and golf on today’s schedule before March Madness returns tomorrow, so let’s get straight to making your next bet better!
About Last Night
Ohtani wins Classic for Japan
American baseball fans will have appreciated the drama of last night’s Japan vs USA game, if not the result, but there was some compensation for Pickswise followers after Keith Schmelter advised Japan +1.5 (-140) in our preview. While you’re thinking about baseball again, remember to check out our 2023 MLB season preview.
Perfect night on NBA sides!
The Pickswise cappers smashed Tuesday’s NBA slate, going 6-0 with our spread and money line picks. The Celtics made a statement with a 132-109 win over the Kings, while the Thunder, who we picked as a 6.5-point underdog, won outright, beating the Lakers 101-100. Our NBA parlay also cashed at reduced odds of +257 with one leg pushing.
Canadiens upset Lightning
The Bruins marched on with a 2-1 win over the Senators and the Hurricanes whipped up a strong finish to beat the Rangers 3-2 in the NHL on Tuesday, but the Lightning lost 3-2 to the Canadiens, while the Wild beat the Devils 2-1 in overtime.

Best Bet of the Day
NBA: Over 233.5 in Portland Trail Blazers vs Utah Jazz
9:00 pm ET, ROOT/ATTSN RM
The Trail Blazers and the Jazz should contest a high-scoring game tonight, whether or not Lauri Markkanen is able to play for Utah. Neither team cares all that much about defense, especially the Blazers who are 27th in defensive efficiency and allowing 115.2 points per 100 possessions this season. The Jazz aren’t much better, ranking 24th and allowing 113.6 points. Damian Lillard is averaging 36.5 points in 2 games against the Jazz this season and just had 41 and 38-point games against the Celtics and Knicks. Read our full Trail Blazers vs Jazz predictions.
March Madness returns tomorrow, so be sure to check out the bracket and our latest NCAA Tournament analysis and picks through our March Madness hub.
