Veight back in McEvoys’ garage

Must read

Tuesday marks a significant day for Tony and Calvin McEvoy’s stable at Ballarat, as star colt Veight is due to make his return to the yard ahead of his upcoming spring campaign.

“I’ve been looking forward to today,” Tony McEvoy said. “We’ve got the red carpet all rolled out for him.

“He gets back into the stable today after being on the water-walker for about three weeks and we’re really looking forward to seeing him come off the float.’’

A rising four-year-old, McEvoy said that he’s noted greater physical maturity from Veight, following his autumn campaign where he took out the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes in Sydney.

“He really has grown up now,” McEvoy said.

“I know I said it after his last prep, well, he’s taken another step, and he really looks like a big bull now. We’ve got lots to work with and we know he’s got a big motor.”

McEvoy has previously stated that Veight will kick off his Spring Carnival in the G1 Manikato Stakes at The Valley on September 27.

The Cox Plate-winning trainer also revealed that South Australian Derby winner Coco Sun is also back in work as the spring draws closer.

“We’ll probably head to the Caulfield Cup and see if we can get her in there with the right weight,” McEvoy said.

“It’s a good race for mares.”

Coco Sun is at $51 in Sportsbet’s market for the Caulfield Cup.
