Police open fire on suspect in East Village


NEW YORK — Tense moments led to police opening fire on a suspect in the East Village on Thursday night.

Nobody was injured, but a 20-year-old man was taken into custody after the police say he brandished a gun at officers.

Right now, authorities are investigating if the suspect actually fired his weapon.

East Fourth Street off Avenue C was a crime scene Thursday night.

Just before 8 p.m., police were called to the neighborhood after sources tell us the suspect was fighting with his brother outside, then ran off and began waving around a gun on the street.

Responding officers pulled up in a squad car and spotted the suspect. Police sources tell us the suspect pointed his gun at officers, and from their car, police returned fire.

Nobody was shot, and officers took the suspect into custody.

Sources tell us a revolver was recovered from the scene.

The two officers were taken to the hospital to be checked our for ringing in their ears.
