Jennings hoping to land Sky Lab win before leaving Sydney orbit

Jockey Koby Jennings has put his family in front of racing and will move back to Victoria after the Lord Mayors Cup meeting at Rosehill on Saturday.

The decision was taken earlier in the year but Jennings has been second-guessing himself since.

“It is where my family is from and I have two young kids now, so I want them growing up around family,” Jennings said.

“We are heading back to Gippsland, and then we will work out where is the best place to live.

″⁣I have been up here for a dozen years and it is hard to leave. We decided to go back about three months ago and I have changed my mind every day since. I’m going to just try and find a couple of trainers to work with when I get there until I get settled in.

“I will take things as they come and see what happens, but the weights scale is higher down there. There might be more jockeys down there, but I think there might be more opportunities for me.”

Jennings is a heavyweight jockey and this has restricted his opportunities in Sydney, but when he gets his chance he can make the most of them, as he did on Collette in the Golden Eagle.

Another chance came on Sky Lab in the Scone Cup earlier in the month when he sailed down the centre of the track to beat Waterford, and the pair reunite in the Lord Mayors Cup.

“It was a good effort last start and he is a horse that obviously enjoys his racing. He looked good and felt good at Scone,” Jennings said. “If the race is run to suit him with a bit of speed, he is a horse that is going to give you his best, and I think the extra trip will suit him.”
