Front-runner Nouveaux is better drawn than has twice been the case round Chelmsford this autumn but preference is for her old rival FORGOTTEN TREASURE (nap), who’s improved with racing and may get this run to suit. Arlington and Our Melody likely have the ability to win at this level but each will need to settle better from tricky draws.
The speedy Jungle Jim is better drawn than the dropped-in-trip Cervaro Della Sala and may be the one to get to the front. Either way BINT ALFELLA is given the chance to build on her pleasing turf debut back from a break.
This race is likely to revolve around Nature Watch, whose pedigree and purchase price catch the eye but who has been gelded and makes his debut late in his 3yo season. The betting should guide as to expectation levels but KARRIEWHITCHIT shaped nicely at Chelmsford on last month’s debut when her inexperience was there for all to see. She can take a big step forward and confirm placings with Assail who was half a length behind her in sixth.
A fascinating fillies’ novice in which the Gosdens saddle four, including Oaks winner Anapurna’s sister Twin Peaks, can go to CHORUS, who shaped with a lot of promise behind Strutting at Newmarket in September. Dubai Melody and 625,000gns yearling De Ville, whose yard can do little wrong of late, are two more to consider carefully.
It’s hard to know the worth of Juan Solo’s big-priced third in an ordinary-looking C&D maiden four weeks ago and preference is for LASER SHARP, who found a slow start from stall 14 too much to overcome on his Kempton debut. Roman Crown is arguably the most interesting newcomer.
Bazball, who’s done nothing but progress since handicapping and showed this trip within range last time, goes on the shortlist, but Newcastle winner GUNFIGHTER, who pulled hard on soft ground at Windsor, remains open to improvement having since been gelded. Monks Dream will find this more competitive from the outside stall.
Arguably an unlucky loser having missed the break and found traffic from stall 11 on his C&D debut early last week, INNER TEMPLE is preferred to Pedro Valentino in a race that may well boil down to the two.
