Champion jockey Damien Oliver, on the brink of retirement, has secured the ultimate Group 1 ride to cap off his illustrious career. Oliver is set to guide Zoumon, trained by the reputable duo Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, in the upcoming G1 Northerly Stakes scheduled for December 9.
Zoumon, a five-year-old displaying form with a recent second-place finish in the Five Diamonds earlier this month, will join the field as a late entry for the Ascot race. Adrian Bott officially confirmed to Racing.com on Tuesday that the stable has enlisted Damien Oliver as the rider for Zoumon.
With current odds of $15 according to online bookmakers, Zoumon enters the competition as a top contender. In the betting landscape, Zaaki leads the market with odds set at $2.70, closely pursued by local hopeful Keshi Boom and Victorian challenger Tuvalu.
Damien Oliver, returning from a brief suspension this weekend, will initially showcase his skills on Triple Missile in the Winterbottom Stakes under the guidance of Lindsey Smith. The grand finale of Oliver’s illustrious career is anticipated on Gold Rush Day, culminating on December 16.
